22 Million Tons of Hazardous Waste Safely Transported in 8 Years with the Mobile Waste Tracking System

Implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change to ensure the safe transport of hazardous waste, the Mobile Waste Tracking System (MoTAT) has enabled the transportation of 22 million tons of waste without harming the environment since 2016. According to information obtained by an AA correspondent from the Ministry, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change continues its efforts to prevent environmental pollution with determination.

What is the Mobile Waste Tracking System (MoTAT)?

In this context, the Ministry launched MoTAT in 2016 through the General Directorate of Environmental Impact Assessment, Permits, and Inspections (ÇED) to monitor and regulate the transportation of hazardous waste by road.

Through the system, hazardous and plastic waste generated by businesses, institutions, and organizations can be tracked online from the point of production to the area where it is recycled or disposed of, along with location data.

MoTAT’s Environmental and Economic Contributions

MoTAT ensures that waste management becomes safer, more transparent, and more controllable. Thanks to the system:

  • Illegal disposal of hazardous waste into the environment is prevented.
  • Waste transportation processes can be monitored in real time.
  • Hazardous waste from industrial facilities is safely disposed of.
  • Illegal dumping is prevented, reducing environmental damage.
  • Recycling processes become more efficient.
  • Future Goals and Sustainability

With the advantages provided by MoTAT, it plays a crucial role in helping Turkey achieve its environmental sustainability goals. In the future, the system is expected to be further developed to track more types of waste, strengthen digital integration, and enhance inspection mechanisms.

In conclusion, the Mobile Waste Tracking System (MoTAT) significantly contributes to environmental protection by ensuring the safe transportation of hazardous waste. This system is not only an essential step for Turkey’s environmental policies but also supports raising environmental awareness.
