The bill submitted by the AK Party to the Presidency of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey introduces new measures to prevent rental vehicles from being used in crimes such as terrorism, smuggling, extortion and theft. According to the proposal, real and legal persons who carry out vehicle, ship and sea vehicle rental activities will instantly record all information about the rented vehicle and the renter. A system will be established in such a way that the rental company's computer terminals will be connected to the computer terminals of the law enforcement forces. Information about the renters will be instantly entered into this system.

RECORDINGS WILL BE STORED FOR 5 YEARS

It will be mandatory for vehicles to have GPS devices and for location information records to be kept for 5 years. In addition, it is aimed that information regarding whether the person renting the vehicle has rented more than once will be shared with those operating vehicle rental activities by general law enforcement officers, thus preventing the crime from being committed.

LICENSE WILL BE CANCELLED

With the proposal, those who do not install GPS systems on rental vehicles, those who do not keep records regarding location information will be fined 99 thousand 896 Turkish lira. Those who do not instantly report the renter and the rented vehicle information to general law enforcement officers via the system before the vehicle is returned will be fined 49 thousand 938 Turkish lira. If the acts are repeated within a calendar year, the penalty will be twice the last fine imposed. In addition, if these acts are committed for the fourth time, their operating licenses will be canceled. The information in the vehicle registry and registration system database kept by the Turkish Notaries Union will be shared instantly with the police as well as the Gendarmerie General Command in order to ensure general public order. The regulation aims to track vehicles used in terrorism, smuggling and migrant smuggling crimes committed in the area of ​​responsibility of the gendarmerie, to prevent crimes, to catch suspects, to ensure public order and to prevent irregular migration.
